 Paua ( Maori paua or pāua) is the name of three species of New Zealand large edible sea shells belonging to the Haliotidae family and distinguished from other shells by unusually bright tints of mother-of-pearl . Paua is sometimes found under the name "Sea Opal" - sea opal . The paua is found off the coast of New Zealand at depths from 1 to 15 m.
